Ohio Cichlid Association Hybrid Show Class

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wouldn't this send a very positive, inclusive message?

***THIS IS HYPOTHETICAL***

"The OCA has decided to include a class for flowerhorns at this year's Extravaganza. While flowerhorns are not naturally occurring cichlids, the board of the OCA decided to support this class both because many of our members keep flowerhorns and because we seek to support mutual respect and education among those in all facets of the cichlid hobby. To this end, there will be a speaker at the Extravaganza to describe the origins, varieties, standards, care, and breeding of the flowerhorn.

We look forward to seeing outstanding entrants in the flowerhorn class and seeing you at the OCA Extravaganza!"

Dogofwar I think your hypothetical would be a great start for us flowerhorn enthusiasts to begin to start sharing our fish with others here in Ohio. I would hope for a civil show that described the origins, varieties, standards, care, and breeding of flowerhornns but I just know with all purists who write when someone breeds a hybrid "the fry should be culled immediately" that it would be a weekend of headaches, hand grenades and hypocrisy.

TheFishGuy i thank you for asking and thinking of us.At least your not calling your Extravaganza this

funny stuff huh??? im sure flowerhorns would be welcomed there with open hearts and minds too.If things would be civil i'd think about showing up but if not I'll just stay here with my fish and my friends who love these little menaces!!!

:irked:Well, much to my personal dismay it seems as if the OCA head honchos have decided it's a dead issue:irked: I tried...

On a personal note. I myself am interested in flowerhorns and would like to raise one, or a group. They've long been something I've been interested in since I saw one in person for a first time many years ago. Unfortunately for me the price tags on them seem to be a little high... Any suggestions?

Jonathan - thanks for your efforts - seriously :headbang2
It would be great to have those who made the decision explain their reasoning.

I live in Ypsilanti, about 45 minutes from Toledo. Check this link out http://www.flowerhorncraze.com/Fry-Extravaganza-t59164.html or www.flowerhornsfrombeyond.com I got some of the Red Dragon fry awhile back and they turned out great. I ordered some of the $5 ones they are talking about in that thread so if you would like to have them shipped with ours (2-4 others splitting shipping fee of $35) I can meet you at the border or even ship them to you USPS priority, it should arrive next day. If you don't have a lot of cash to spend, like me, your best bet is to get some fry from Julie, and grow them out. Check the media lounge and check out the thread my $5 FH from Julie. The titaniums in the fry extravaganza are priced really well. They are selling for twice the price on FHUSA, and fhcraze has first dibs on the fry, plus they are a very consistant strain. If you want to do that, you need to contact Julie on fhcraze or flowerhornsfrombeyond@yahoo.com and get your order in before tomorrow. If you want to ship with the SE michigan guys, let her know to ship it with vittleking/mutantseabass order.

Dude, it's never going to happen. Only way this will happen is if we get a FH assoc. started.

 I saw that too.. Guess more hybrid owners read TFH than anyone would have thought? It would be nice if they could get attention through actual content that has to do with the show rather than just being ignorant.. How many business' grow or even survive without ever changing? I think some of them are stuck in 1990..

You cant really convince those who don't have open minds. No worries.
