Sorry to hear you missed this chance. If you do go through with it, I think the tank width should depend on how you will be viewing it.

If it is traditional, view-from-the-side only, I think you should go with a narrower tank, 18" or less. Small fish are hard to see when hiding at the back of a wide tank.

If the tank is placed low, with a glass top, a greater width may be better.

Good point! Its going to be another plywood and glass tank. I'm working on the plans now with Sketch up.

Apple Creek runs through my parents back yard and I've caught all kinds of small stream fish in the past 20... yikes I'm getting old... :( So what ever I get out of there will go in the tank. I might have to go online tho because I'd really like some rainbow darters.

You can get them easily out of big darby creek. I have caught tons of them.

Just a little update. For me to buy 3/8" plate glass to make this a full glass DIY with Euro Braces it would cost right around $300 for the 135G. Thats with tax and the 10% my company charges employees. Playing around with the cost per sq ft and finishing the edges I could also build a 180 72x24x24 for about $70 more, according to GARF 3/8" glass will still work for the 180.
