Oily and sharp Black Diamond substrate?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I started a similar thread a while back. I got nothing but positives but like you I was still apprehensive. Right now I'm looking into the possibilities of other blasting materials. I've heard that the garnet based material is much better but I still haven't taken the plunge and bought any yet.

Are you still using the Black Diamond?

If I were in your position I wouldn't put it in your tank because if it hurts a human like that why wouldn't it possibly hurt your fish?

It can hurt humans as it it shot out of an air powered nozzle hundreds of mph.

Plenty of people use the stuff, myself included.

There are tons of threads on this stuff and even ray keepers havent had any issues.

Again, this stuff is fine to use.

I've never had a problem. My bichirs dug into it and my cichlids move it all over and never seen a mark on them

I have 2 polys in a tank with black diamond. They have no issue with it at all. My Endli loves to bury his head in it. They don't have any kind of scrapes or cuts. Your Geos will be fine.

My goldfishes and weather loach are always sifting through it in my tanks, never seen any cuts or scrapes on their mouths/barbels and none have died since its been in the tanks. I also use it in my shrimp tanks as well and they are doing great although they cannot fit it in their mouth lol.

It is sharp indeed and it did hurt me, too. But that is because you are pushing it with a few PSI. Your fish will not reach that level. You are worrying too much.
