Oily and sharp Black Diamond substrate?

Does anyone using this have little black stick-like pieces in with the sand? They are hard and from what I have read, they are crystallized silica. Will these pose a danger to my geos since they will be sifting through it?

I read about a guy who had these in his batch and his geos won't sift anymore. He said they sift for the first week or so, but then stopped completely. Anyone else have or heard about this kind of experience?

I found them in my bag but had no problem with them and my fish. To get rid of them I just scooped the sand with my net to filter it and got them all out

I have it in two tanks. My fish are very healthy. A little Texan moved about 5 pounds of it around one tank. Didn't hurt him a bit.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I am going to continue on with the blasting sand. Keep washing it very well and I will take your advice, Aquamonster, and filter the sand using a net.
