Do you vaccum your substrate? Make sure to get it good and ensure there is not a pocket of funky bacteria accumulating somewhere.

bare bottom, bubbles and color are from mela fix and internal filter's....

Just keep testing and w/c. after a big initial change, do smaller daily w/c. Maybe running underworld polyfilter will help too

i have been treating the tank with small doses of melafix to try to aid the gill curl regrowth, it was working....

Melafix eh? That explains the cloudiness and bubbles, be careful with that stuff, it might have been overdosed.

I think the polyfilter is the way to go, that or some chemipure. It will get that water cleaned out quickly.

it's a sponge which will strip all the crap out of your water, kinda like super carbon if you see what I mean.
Most lfs will sell it. just google underworld polyfilter and you'll see what the packet looks like
