I have 2 emperor 400's and 2 Jebao 304's (340 gals per hr). It has four trays in it.. How should i set them up? Can someone tell me, exacty how to set the filters up (as far a where the bio balls go, the the pads)? I figured as long as i was filtering 12-1400 gallons an hour id be ok??!!??
For chemical yes, for bio NO. Emp 400's are crap. I say use fx5's and eheim canisters or a wet/dry filter.

i had the same problem with my oscar tank, all my oscars got that on their eyes, had to bring my ph up and adjust my levels(ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) as fast as possible, some crushed coral in a filter bag in my filters worked for me,and as suggested if you can bio spira works really well(now called dr. tims)and up your water changes test ph before and after water changes, mine was crashing from 7.0 to 6.0 in amatter of twelve hours, turns out they were working on the water pipes near my house and that affected my ph,since then i havent had any problems.

your 2 emp 400 isn't the problem, I use to run 2 penguin 350 in my 55 grow out and never had a problem!!! you can see for yourself http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215034 I also added some biological sponges to the filters for more bio and I changed water every 3-5 days.

I'm not a rep for AQ, but that's my favorite HOB filter (unless one does a custom one that can beat them :D)

Sinister, try to remove all the "classic" media in one of your filters and replace it with ceramic bio media. That might have an effect. I still think it's not enough biological filtration, but this guys down here made a really good point ...dead feeder ;)

Do larger water changes. I spy a dead feeder on the inlet tube... A dead comet can make the water bad in no time IMO.

Quite possible.

I had just put in the feeders about ten min. before i took the pic (and of course they didnt eat... and the rosies dont live long in the heat 88.. so when i took the pic there were actually 2 of them) I try to clean the tank of all "dead" rosies about 20-30 mins after feeding.. Im going to get some Bio something ASAP today...

I had a dat get the eye cloud once. I could only determine it was from water quality. I cleaned out my sump, which it needed badly, dude huge water changes, but eventually it took maracyn to clear it up. It appeared an infection had set in.

Well,to give you a different perspective. First you say that the bass freak out and thrash all over the tank. I would get enough fake plants to cover the front of the tank, and let them have an open area to swim behind the plants-it is good for them to hide out of view if they are scared, they will feel more secure .As soon as your larger tank is ready, and cycled, and has plenty of cover, then they should be fine in the larger tank. You will definately notice them calm down, with lots of cover. Also, I had some pbass recently that every time one of my friends walked by the tank they panicked, and hit the sides, top,and really beat themselves up. My friends walk by the tank very fast, I on the other hand walk up to the tank and only approach when the pbass slow down thier panic swimming. as long as they panic I stop approaching, and then slowly walk towards the tank. It takes a while for them to calm sometimes, but you will see what I mean. Those fish are in a large tank now and are fine. Right now though they are chasing feeders through the tank and are constantly scratching thier eyes. Thier eyes heal quickly ,with good water quality, and there is only so much I can do to protect them. Its part of having predators in a tank. I would ask you this question-were thier eyes ok before they got scared and smashed themselves all over the tank? hope this helps.

I would take all the filtration and put everything in the bigger tank. The larger tank will give more water volume and take longer to foul.
