okay. slow down. can you please tell us the aquarium size, and the amount of Ammonia Nitrate and Nitrite in the tank. Also how are you testing; with a test kit or dip strips?

ammonia is .25 no2 is 1.0 no3 is 10 ph is 7.4 it is a 220g tank yousing as a grow out till i get the pond up and running. the fish are slimeing up and the cats are breathing realy heavy

Dip strips can give bad readings if the strips are past the expiration date; its happened to me. Try a different test kit?

Also try testing the water out of the tap. Is the nitrite high there too?

The bacteria in your biological filtration are supposed to break down the no2. If that isn't happening, then the problem lies in your bacteria. When you put 200 gallons of new water in, was it tap water? Did you dechlorinate? If so, are you sure you did it adequately? Your list of stuff up there doesn't list any bioballs, get some. A biowheel or 2 would help if your filter is set up for those. Switch your focus from the water, to the bacteria. (I know they are almost one in the same, but not entirely.)
