You know I really thought someone wouldve nailed it by now. there are lots of guys here who have Vieja knowledge, you could try PMíng aquamojo, he has a large zonatus.
I think Buddha also has some paratheraps and vieja species. I´m sorry but the people who think its a blue gill or severum hybrid don´t even deserve to be in this section of the forum.
How can you spend time in the cichlid section and not know that 1. its extremely difficult to hybridise a severum (not Impossible but ultra hard, ive only seen one case, and there was picture and videos of not only the pair guarding the eggs but also the fry).
2. anyone that spends any amount of time here in the cichlid section or KEEPING CICHLIDS would know what a vieja looks like. they all have that same characteristic look, and to not know what it is is like suggesting a fire mouth is a largemouth bass hybrid.

i dont see the blue of a zonatus, but i do see bifa x hybrid, just say its a bifahybrid. i see the red in the fins and think zonatus/blackbelt. the horizontal stripes dont say zonatus to me. its a cool looking fish just label it as a paratheraps hybrid, you dont need a name to attach to him to explain how nice he is. pictures are enuff! great looking fish
I believe the fish is ex-Cichlasoma tuyrense. It has the markings of Hartwegi but the body shape is kind of unique to tuyrense. Man...it amazes me how fast everyone throws out the hybrid card. They're out there, but unless someone said I had THIS fish in with THAT fish...how would you know what kind of juveniles are in there? Nice fish if it is tuyrense. They don't get that big and they are relatively mild mannered.
i think ppl like me tro the hybrid card is cos we cant nail it down, and try a good guess,, now in my case it was a totaly wild guess just baced on like, nothing elce taken in, prob wasting ppl time but hay its gona be good when some one nails it, i bet its a rare fish that ppl in here cant name
