Normally the noise doesn't bother me but lately its killing me when I try to sleep would it be ok to turn off my filter and bubbler while I sleep? Is a 75 gallon tank with a large flowerhorn, convict, and 3 medium sun cats... this noise is driving me nuts but id rather not harm my fish. Also new filters are not an option as im very poor atm

ha no do not do this. Maybe try and muffle the sound. what type of filter?

think it would be ok have 3goldfish 1pleco and 3gouramis and some platys in a 55 and the filter stoped working for a couple of days.

hang a curtain rod and a big thick blanket infront of the tank.. (it will obsorb the sound), also raise you water lvl so there is less splashing from the filter, maybe install a regulator for the bubbler ( like $2 max at petsmart) so you can just turn the nob down at night.. just suggestions!!! do what you want!!!!!!!!!!!! (i dont reccomend turning the filter off at any time..)

Don't turn off both keep at the minimum one on you want to have something keeping the water oxygenated turn off the more noisy one I guess buy a timer for it to so you don't have to keep turning it off and on

Am I really reading this? lol

im gonna be nice and not say anything stupid:popcorn:

You can be nice and not say anything stupid, but im not lol.
If its bothering you that badly sleep somewhere else or find a way to muffle the sound some.
Turning your filter off for 8 hours a day while you sleep (assuming you only sleep 8hrs) would be like cutting your filtration down 33%.....an absolutely bad idea IMO
AND thats not mentioning the lack of aeration when both bubbler and filter are turned off, which the fish would probably survive, but that coupled with 33% reduced filtration is not something i would advise.

Sorry not to answer the original question....no its not ok to turn off the filter over night, you can turn off the bubbles forever if you want.
