ok to turn of filter at night?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can't sleep without the sound! LOL I always had some kind of tank since I was 8. I love the sound of the filter. P.S. Trying sleeping in Marine barracks. 3

i cant sleep without my fishtank noise either. My filters area lil old now and have some regular noise but doesnt bother me. This could be one of the top 5 stupidest questions ever....

Go ahead and turnoff the aerator, but leave the filter alone! Increasing the water level reduces the noise it makes. If its mechanical noise in the filter that is a problem I suspect it needs cleaning, you may have a piece of sand in the impeller or something.

What kind of filter is it?

Definitely top 5 up there with "can I keep an oscar in a 10 gallon since it grows to 10 inches".... The noise is soothing to me, almost like white noise, the room seems so awkwardly quiet without it

Move the tank or move your sleeping area.

Sorry not to answer the original question....no its not ok to turn off the filter over night, you can turn off the bubbles forever if you want.

Ditch the bubbler. The filter should be providing enough aeration on it's own but you would kill off a good deal of helpful bacteria by shutting off the filter at night. What sort of noise does it make,or,is the noise coming from the bubbler?...Like K Drun already said,if the filter is making noise there are things you could do that might solve it's problem. You could even raise the water level in the tank to where the return water from the filter does not make as much noise and lower it during the day for increased oxygen.
