Basically i've had my convict cichlids for a few months now, and today i just did a large water change (got distracted by the phone, local LFS rang me to tell me my order was in go figure) and took out much more water (close to 50%) then i intended
and since the water change my pair of convict cichlids have been well lip-locking constantly or swimming around together extremely fast and stirring up stand.
Any idea what's going on, should i worry or what :)

Both males, I do not see any sign of coloration on either body........Females show red-yellowish markings thoughout the body, I see none on both fish........Go to the store and trade in for a female........ANY male and female Convict combo WILL breed within two weeks.......

Ok i know it's a male and a female, this is the same two fish pictured as before.
Tell me if i'm wrong please, but come on, look at the colours.
Some days she's covered in colourful spots, shows up well if my hand goes anywhere near her log to. but others she goes to the same as the male.
Also, thanks for the comments on the nice pictures :)

both look male to me honestly. i have a pair that spawn every 3 weeks. GL

Even with the colours showing in the second set of pics.
dam, i was so happy to have a pair :(
aaah well, i'm kinda attached to them so i doubt i'll trade them in.
those rosy barbs i've been meaning to trade in once the tank was cycled for ages, as you can see went so well.

lol, we've all been guilty of keeping "temporary" fish. i'd seriously suggest you trade one in and get a female. those males will not likely enjoy each other forever and you would enjoy having them spawn for you. GL

Aaah i know i should but but but, to be honest i'd rather set up another tank and have 2 pairs of convict's over selling one, but just not enough money to do it.... Taking Donations :P
Will have to consider it, i love my convicts

Thanks alot for the advice everyone by the ways :)

You have a male and female. They are doing what convicts do. Fighting. The large water change obvioulsy stired something in one of them, and the other may not be ready just quite yet. Keep your eye out for eggs. They will be there soon.

Mate, there way past eggs, i got babies
Should be a prize for the only one to say ones a female in my opinion :D
anyways, well pictures, there not to great as the babies only push about 2mm, but there about a hundred :)
Babys are the kinda black areas on the sand (and glass is kinda being left dirty now as i do not wish to disturb them, good call or bad call?)

Yeah in the 2nd pic you can tell she's obviously female.

But kind of moot point now that they've spawned lol. So congrats.
