I have a ten gallon tank with a redbelly pacu, oscar, 2 columbian sharks and a pleco, all still juvenile. My nitrite and nitrate levels were staying at a high level even after twice a week water changes. so i upgraded to a 50 gallon tank that i got from a guy it came completely set up with fish and all. i set it up at my house and cleaned some things off and threw in his fish ( 2 pink kissing gouramis, 2 pearl gouramis, and a gold gourami) plus my fish. it has been 4 days and his fish have yet to eat anything significant, mainly because my fish eat it all very quickly. ive tried getting my fish's attention on one side and feed the gouramis on the other but they still wont eat.

does any one have suggestions on how to get these things to eat?

first of all, pacus can get 2 feet plus. the world record was a 5 footer. it was 3 feet tall too. a 50 gallon just isn't big enough for one. oscars also need 75 gallons on their own. a 55 can work, but they need bigger. plecos can also get 2 feet plus, and need way more than algae for food. columbian sharks also get over a foot long. for all of your fish, you need a 1000 gallon tank. even then, your gouramis will be eaten.
to get them to eat, get a bigger tank, and do 2 water changes a week.

p.s. fish don't grow to the size of their tank

WOW that's alot of fish. None of them belong in a 10 gallon tank. The Columbian Sharks can grow to be 10", Oscars, about 1". You need a much larger tank. If you get rid of the Pacu, you will be in better shape, but still need a much larger tank.

all of that is very nice to know, my pacu and oscar are only 2-3in long while the gourami are between 3-6 depending on which one so ill be good for a while then if i have to ill get another tank or sell them.

but none of that solves my problem of my gouramis not eating can anyone help ?

that why i got a 50 gal but it came with 5 gouramis.

a tank upgrade will be needed within a year considering the growth rates of the pacus. Test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate again, they might be off considering the heavy bioload. otherwise, is the tank cycled?

i tested it this morning and it is on its way to rising, i planned on doing a 5 gal water change soon. on the cycling im sure is i got it froma guy who had it set up for a year or more, but in the move i stirred up the gravel with a gravel cleaner and sucked up alot of the stuff, but the filter should be cycled.
