Depends on the store. If it's a petsmart, petco, petland, or any large commercial store, no. If you find a little mom and pop shop, 9 out of 10 times they'll at least give you a store credit for it. Gave mine away like that and got a $30 store credit for him (he was just about a foot long). It all depends on what lfs you go to.
