The guy I got it from claimed it was a convict. He raised the convict and a regular JD in a 90 gallon for 3 years about.

Sorry....Thought all day....not a con....You need to have caught it to back it up....

Theoretically, if that fish is a hybrid then what other species does he look to have in him? Just curious...

I have about 25 convicts. Started with 2. Thought I was wise and breed them to use the fry to feed an oscar.

Apparently, oscars are fake monster fish. Mine only eats the fish that I don't want him to eat. Oh and tetras, he likes them, but not the cons.

While there are about 15 in the 75g tank with the oscar, and another 5 in the 30g tank with the parents - another batch is about to be born.

Not sure what to do with them at this point. Probably give out what I can to friends and co-workers, then cull the rest and turn them into oscar-attractive bacon strips. By the time I finish with the original batch, the new batch should be ready to do the same for.

Don't get me wrong though - I would have to say that con's are probably the coolest cichlids that I have owned so far. They pack a punch for a small fish, and they have no fear when it comes to attacking my hand if it is in the tank. The male will actually hold on to a chunk of my palm and shake like a great white shark with all of his little might.

If con's got as large as an oscar or some of the other fish - they might be on the man-eater list.

Here are pics of my marble con. I hope he'll continue to grow but right now he's about 4" TL and a year old.

A few years ago I had a male pink convict, he was a beast, about 4" long, starting to get a nice hump on his head, but I had to sell him as I couldn't devote a single tank to him. He had a big attitude, our cat would sit next to his tank and he would go crazy trying to attack it through the glass!
Anyway, it turns out my GF had a real soft spot for him, and one day we were just talking about hobbies and stuff and I suggested I set her up a tank. She was stoked and straight away said she wanted a pink convict!! So she now has a 15g next to her study desk with 'Pinky the second'. He's only about 2" but already showing attitude and looking nice.

Here's a pic of the first one:

My con again, I tried getting rid of this guy, but people are afraid of it:grinno:, someone returned it back to me when it started bullying his bigger oscars. In the end I got a 20g tank all for himself. Then added a 6cm(halfsize) female, totally astonised to see this brute settled with the new girl very soon.

If you guys want a big hump on cons, keep them in harder water, with shells n limestone rocks.

Hey all! Newbie here! These are some pics of my convicts. These were taken a while ago. I love convicts as well.

Here is my old convict. He was 9 inches. Died about 2 years ago. Never had the chance to breed him. He was never interested. He was really really thick.
