now THERES proof that cons get bigger then 6 inches other then my pink male i gave away

Sorry to burst your bubble but that guy is 5-5.5". When hobbyists figure maximum fish size they usually state the SL (standard length) of the fish which does not include the tail. TL (total length) of that fish is 7" but that is not how aquarists measure fish....that's how fishermen measure fish. ;)

He is definitely an awesome convict though. :)

From what I've seen in most books, sites and discussion boards, including here, length is often generalized in TL. Most times people will note if length stated is SL.

Here are my brand new convicts i just got this last Sunday. I love these guys they have so much character. I think they are one of the most underrated fish.

Beautiful!!

Im not sure but I think they may have eggs in the next couple of days. The pot in the background is cleaned spotless and they have a pit dug. I got the guys for $6.99 ea. They are about 3.5 in. to the base of the tail. I think i have a male and a female. They are both the same size and only one has a hump. One has long threads on its fins to unlike the other.

NICE!!

now see..I've always seen the opposite...all the hobbyists I've spoken to in various forums always measure their fish by SL but will note if they mean in TL. that's the problem with having 2 different ways to measure a fish...without specifying each and every time you don't know for sure which one a person means. I got to the point where anytime I posted a pic or talked about one of my fish I would always put SL behind it so that people knew for sure that I was talking about standard length..we need to get everybody to do that..lol

LOL Well it doesn't detract from their beauty or bulk.
On an interesting note, I know many retailers measure in TL, including Rapps, unless otherwise noted.
