ive got some pretty awesome, IMO, Convicts, very buff looking, tough little buggers! a lot tougher then my previous cons, but also more secretive.

oh yeah definitely...retailers will do or say anything they can to get more money from the fish so yeah they're going to use total length, including the tail and still probably adding anywhere from 1/4" to 2" on top of that..lol. A lot of people have mentioned that Rapps fish usually seem smaller than what it says on his site...now don't get me wrong, he has top quality fish and I'd order from him any day of the week but I too have noticed when I order from him that the fish are always smaller than I expect them to be...even if I think in terms of TL.

Think of it this way...the fins and tail of a fish are similar to hair on a person. one fish may simply grow longer extensions in their finnage and tail due to genetics. Then you could have another fish that is the same size to the base of the caudal peduncle, but maybe it's been harrassed and it's tail been nipped at or even bitten mostly off. Now granted that tail will grow back, but by TL they'd be considered different lengths even though the bodies of the fish were the same. It's like considering a person with a huge afro taller than another person of the same height but who is bald. When you measure a person's height, you go to the top of their head, not to the top of their hair.
