temp was 81. I tested the water right when i saw it, i think ammonia was a little high.. what can I do? what caused that???

you can start by turning your heaters down to the losest safe zone for your fish.
oxygen in water decreases as temp increases

i would say it depends how bad the water quality is as some tap water conditioners like prime will lower available oxygen too

I would do a water change immediately. There are a number of things that may have caused it. Overstocking, perhaps some moldy food trapped someplace. Whatever the cause any amount of ammonia is dangerous and needs to be dealt with. I would suggest using Prime or something after the water change to neutralize the ammonia.

edit: meaning its safe to use with out fear if its been made up for a day sorry wasnt clear
