I couldn't justify spending that much on a fish, especially a pleco. The top is my L91 Three Beacon pleco which isn't as cool looking as that L25, but cool to me nonetheless. He cost me $20 at 1/2 price, because he only had one eye (piranha bite). And because I can never get a good pic of my pleco, here's another L91 from PlanetCatfish. Not as striking as the scarlet, but nice bright oranges.

I was dead set on getting an L025, but I did a little research, and apparently they really cracked down on the importing of them in the States which is why you should grab one at any price in the states if you find one!

I think you misunderstood your research. They are (amongst a lot of others) are banned from export from Brazil. It is illegal to export them but legal to import them. Technically they have illegal to export since the early 90's and it's only since IBAMA got a new boss in 2008 that export controls have been tightened.
