? on feeding pleco

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
On another note about feeding (as not to derail), most plecos are nocturnal and feed at night. But mine seem to come out all the time, as long as I'm not shadowing over the tank.

Mine actually only eats during the day. lol.

I do about 4 cucumbers a week.. for about 15 plecos.. I've been using a wired tided with turkey stuffing pins.. kinda a chain with hooks.. I also use stainless steel forks with another tank..

Thats usually how i feed plecos with veggies.. I also do algae walfers on the side during the days that i do not have the veggies..

If you feed plecos cucumbers or zucchini daily, can that be their staple diet? or would it be better to still feed it algae wafers?

And what's the deal with people saying that cucumbers are hardly nutritious? I think the diet sticky said this. Are they really?

I have a common pleco that has kept my tank clean. He's about 7 inches now. He was 4 inches when I got him.

There is not much algae for him to eat anymore, so he eats shrimp pellets.

We drop some in, let him eat, and then we drop more in and he then lets the loaches eat.

I am looking to get rid of him, as he's getting a little large for my 75 gallon, and I would like to get some smaller plecos like the royal pleco etc.
Actually royal plecos can reach 18 inches and can makle as much or more waste than a common. Try some of the bushy nose plecos they stay around 6 inches.

18 inches is a lot less smaller than a common pleco can get though.

Plus he will be upgraded to a 400 gallon tank at some point in time.

Maybe I'll keep the common. I am not sure yet.
