I was offered a good deal here at my LFS,am still thinking if it .will it tolerate my tankmates or can the tankmtes tolerate him,am also thinking if it would cause me electric shocks when im cleaning the tank.

umm the electric shock can stun a horse and definently hospitilaise u. they do get extremely large and are besty kept to public aquariyums

instead ur safety, the other tankmates???
my LFS also have, but i totally cared of other precious "pish"
but still wanna see someone have them..
i wonder how does it feel..??

If the tank is relatively big, by putting your bare hand into the tank is not a problem because the cat will not likely to be disturbed. Hence discharge the electric shock.
Alternatively, you can use a long plastic pipe to "stress" it a little first so as to let him discharge and it takes time to recharge itself. Meanwhile, you clean the tank. If you are still worried, wear a rubber glove.:)

P/s: I have moved this thread to catfish forum so that you will have more advices from other catfish keepers....

I wonder if titanium ground probes would make the catfish's shock ineffective since it leaves the tank?

nice thinking, are these the rods that they used at the top of the buildings that are intentionally used for lightnings?

my lfs has them for 20 bucks, just little two inchers. The guy at the fish store tried to get me to stick my finger in there. He said he's been stunned a couple times. He says they definately hurt even at a small size. If you tried to keep one i would definately try to keep them in a species only tank, just to be safe.

Wouldn't a ti grounding probe negate the problem, since the probe is at a lower potential than you are? I know water plays havoc with the way the skin effect works, but I'd think even your internal resistance is higher than a ground probe?
