I didn't quote you, it was to the op..........
I know I just didn't get it at first

Its a shame you don't live close to me retuks.

We get the first 3 in around here yearly.

I think it is wierd about the charax gibbus as well.
We see all kinds of people that want a armatus or other payara for there 20-100g aquarium. And we have to go all thru the steps of educating them about tank sizes and requirements.

If charax was more availiable we could just point them right to it. And say here is the perfect Payara LIKE species for that 20g tank.

All the info i have read about charax says they are one of the most abundant fish through out the amazon basin. And that they use them for fishing bait like we do fat head minnows.

And we can't get them very often?

Good point Hybrid. The bowfin is a native fish that turns up in stores very seldom.I have been after one for some time now,I dont think that it is rare in the wild but it does not seem to be collected or bred very much.

Yeah I really don't get why a free forum has a flaw cause a kid can't easily get rare fish?!
Seriously free service and it helps the availability of rare fish. If you want to acquire any fish that is rare this place can make it happen we have tons of great vendors.

first off, im 22. secondly, its not a money issue.
And no, petsmart is not my definition of rare... if they sell the mentioned fish at yours then good for you. they don't at any lfs here in Hawaii.

My point being I didn't choose particularly rare fish and YET i still can't find them for sale. not even ONLINE (isn't everything supposed to be available online?)
care sheets all over suggest that these fish are widely available and thats what gets me.

I'll tell you what I was told by a very wise person on these forums.

when you are getting into rare and hard to find fish. You need to do a few things

Get the aquarium ready that they will go in. √

Get the money around that you are willing to spend plus the shipping money. √

Get the word out the the vendors that you have cash on hand and what you want. On MFK? i will try that.

and WAIT.

alright lets see what i can come up with.

Reading that is like deja vu for me. I was just telling another member the same thing awhile back.

I have been hunting for bowfin for a few years now. I have even went as far as going on a few fishing trips to hot spots for fins that I was refered to from a bowfin only website.

They are native to me but I have never seen one. And I am a fishing fanatic.:(

wow. No wonder you'd want them the sorta resemble Channa and their local!. (Don't know why nobody would want them then!)
