alright lets see what i can come up with.

Depending on what you want MKF will be your best place. You're going to be real good off if you can find out where a vendor is getting his next shipment from and if what you want is from that region ask if they can try to bring what you want in.

so far ive asked the 2 most apparent distributors of piranha and that be Aquascape and Massive Aggression as they import the closest to the regions.

I am only interested in Charax Gibbosus now as i find L Astrigatas too low on info and the rest of them illegal in my state. (pike livebearers FFS)...

I want a shoal of 6 of them =) and Hybrid said they are common bait fish in SA. so employing someone to go in with a scoop net on a side deal to their next shipment won't be hard hopefully.

and maybe i can bolster my exodon shoal as they are now in a 20 long...

well, nothing yet after asking pedro and the massive aggression guy.

while i wait for them, does any1 else know of a vendor who deals with south american predators?

You'd be surprised. Lebiasina are a bait fish/mosquito control in South America, but several prominent people in the business that shall remain nameless said that the fisherman just refuse to collect/ship them because it's not worth their time and they don't like dealing with small fish. The profit margin is minimal to them for the effort, they don't like doing one time collections for certain species they know they'll likely never sell again. I offered a good sum of $$ for a box of Lebiasina erythrotaenia, hell I even said the box could contain 1/4 the amount of fish needed and I'd still pay for a full box,and the fisherman still refused to send any. Think in the range of $500 for a single box containing anywhere from 10-40 1-2" fish. I was told repeatedly that if I wanted oddballs I'd have to be at least willing to buy an entire box.

The best bet I find is to wait for shipments of assorted tetras and whatnot, things like Brycon, Charax, Lebiasina, Hollandichthys, Cynopotamus and any other oddball characins generally come in accidentally mixed in with your run of the mill assorted tetras.

I myself would not mind a shoal of Phago loricatus but am having a hard time finding them.

indeed! but glass headstanders are also a commercial fish. i really wonder why they wouldn't take your $500 for that... and what makes it seem sad is the employed fishermen can't just go out of their way for 5 minutes to scoop some fish that you want (and they probably catch them often between hunting piranhas and ornamentals)...

I agree. I also feel that finding and acquiring healthy examples of the fish you want to keep is half the fun. To get the healthy bichirs I wanted I found a
Hmong owned hole in the wall fish store in Sacramento that had the most beautiful specimens I had ever seen and all very well kept :D

Yep, nothing like the "hunt"!

i completely disagree.

IMO hunting wastes time that you could be spending enjoying your fish and it also adds a lingering discomfort of the fact that when/if you loose your fish you have to go through hell all over again if you want replacements. knowing that you have no solid source to supply yourself with and with a fish that lives for around 6 years your probably going to. and thats just inconvenient.

for instance, some kid in a honda T-bones your De tomaso at the intersection.. the car doesn't know how much time and money you spent hunting/restoring it yet it has the same risks and probability to crash or get stolen as any other car. the kid in the honda will simply buy a new one if he can still drive for around 4 grand.. but what of your classic supercar? gonna spend another decade hunting for parts, kits, and models?

yes restoring cars are fun the first time, but even for me it gets frustrating when people keep hitting them even in the parking lot! (damn tourists)

Reading your above post, I imagine you the type of guy that marries the first ,butt ugly, girl that knows your name...

Some things are worth trying hard for dude...

Oh man, I HATE this class. Can you believe the teacher makes us do homework? This is such bull!

I can't believe we have to stand in line like this to get something to eat. It shouldn't be this way. I'm going to write a letter.

It's too much work, after buying a pack of cigarettes, to have to unwrap the cilephane, pull out the foil, and lite it myself.

wah, wah, wah.....you complain too much.
