One for the car guys

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
tell me what a third of the cost is? as i've been doing turbo setups for years n years now on all kinds of cars and i've seen people get away with turbo'ing the v8s for pretty cheap compared to the price of a blower (2k+). i've seen full turbo kits built for less then half depending on what route you take. there's ghetto but hey wth, it works. and there's baller status turbo kits but even these are not to pricy when u say 3rd of the cost. you make turbo kits sound over 5k

No turbo lag is a good thing. When you start spinning huge turbos it takes a while to get them to spool.

The sound of a blower is better anyway IMO:D

At the same psi levels, I'm making the same amount of power to the wheels as the turbo guys make.

I went this route for the low end torque. When I run the car, the weak point was getting out of the corners faster. I could turn and brake with almost any other car in my class....but they were leaving me behind b/c I wasn't making enough power lower in the rpm range. The positive displacement blower was the cheapest way to get that. This thing is only a third the cost of a basic turbo set up.

Sounds like it was really developed with an idea in mind then. Turbos are great but that thing probably puts out way less heat and no worrying about if you're loosing boost somewhere in the piping or somewhere else. Turbos are nice but people forget about the problems that go along with them sometimes.

Keep in mind those lost cost turbo kits are usually short distance away from someone who doesn't know what they're doing kabooming something as usually they're missing a peice of the puzzle or something is substituted for a higher cost part. Many people as consumers are waaaaay confused by wastegate springs, boost controllers/actuators, etc.

From the way I see it a roots style supercharger is the easiest you can get for boost.

The only dependable turbo kits right now that make these power levels on the V6 Mustang come from Andy at TMA Turbo. Great stuff - don't get me wrong. I was gonna have him turbo my Explorer Sport prior to putting an M90 on it. But at that boost level, he is getting upper $4K for a pipe, IC and compressor kit (not to mention fuel system upgrades). I don't have even close to that into this particular blower set up. And even with that, I still would have to pass on low end power for high end - and I wasn't willing to do that. This starts making decent power a touch below 2000 rpm and doesn't stop until it hits the rev limiter.
