  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use a check valve on all my air pumps, but all my filters are HOB. Someone will have to educate me on Canister soon.

I do have that already. I bought an elbow w/ a drilled hole already and never works. The lfs told me that, it will break the back flow. But never did.

That's odd - a hole in the return tube should be very effective. Does it at least suck air when the water level drops? Maybe you just need to widen or reposition the hole. Check valves are fine, but supposedly they can stop working if they get dirty. The hole in the return is generally the safest and cheapest way to prevent a back-siphon.

any pics of the hole on the return pipe. think i'd like to try this on my 268gal but wanna make 100% im doing it right.

Thanks

yes and its called a check valve its a real life saver when the power goes out..or another thing you can do is on the return you can drill a hole about 1/4 inch below the water so when the power goes out the tank will only drain to that hole and then stop because it sucked in air...just a sugestion if you cant find one..

I'll try to post mine later. I'll try those check valves you guys saying. Where can i get one?

O, i get it know. mine the other way around. I got a short return and my nozzle is like 4" below water. And the elbow, where the hole, is 8" below water. So i really need the check valve.
