I'm Where I'm At
another is-this-too-harsh thread

so the kid fails to clear the bar, in frustration utters a curse word and the judges disqualify him which costs his team a state title

i didn't confirm but according to someone who posted a comment in the article says the judges just basically followed the rules against profanity in the competition

either way, i don't know, sounds a bit harsh to me. right thing to do or are we sissifying our kids?

Doesn't really matter, if it is true that the judges were following established rules.

I don't know about sissifying.I'm someone who has been exposed to colorful words and language since I was a little tyke but that does not mean that everyone else has been.

i'm not stating either or about the sissifying, just asking the question

i do think in general, we are babying our kids a bit much. as a kid, i watched R rated movies, Faces of Death and all that. i don't think it gave me any psychological issues at all.

i remember in middle school our P.E. coach used to curse in front of us. it wasn't a big deal back then

Neither was I,I was just trying to answer your question, the way I see it anyway.....Who knows, maybe there has been quite a few colorful outbursts at these events which helped cause those rules to be put in place.

I think at the state finals level their should be some grace as long as he was not directing the word to another team and insulting them. I know as a coach I would not want to win a state title over a cuss word. I say Man up judges and let the boys compete!!
