One Word Costs Pole Vaulter & Team a Title

this isn't the judges fault if they were simply following the rules. the issue is higher up with the people making the rules and their reasoning. but i don't know the reasons for the rule, it may be valid, but in general, to me it's a bit harsh

but i agree, i wouldn't wanna beat these guys because one of their guys cursed.

My experience in the coaching arena is at the title level the small meaning less offensives are over looked to some degree. It is unfortunate that it happened the way it did.

I think it should be situational. If the kids are swearing left and right, then they should be disqualified. If the kid lets a swear word slip by accident, that is different. Unfortunately, a lot of people who make rules feel that nobody other than themselves are able to judge a situation and then the rules can apply in even the most ridiculous situations where common sense says otherwise.

Not harsh at all! Keep in mind it's high school competition. If the problem didn't get fix there then what's school for and why should we send our kid to school?

As someone who used to compete in that when I was younger ... I like the rule.

It's teaching kids respect, how to follow rules, how to deal with frustration and setting them up for professionalism in the work place. There was no need for it and it shows lack of personal control of the athelete in question. Imagine swearing when the owner of the company you work for 10 years later tells you that you failed at something. Think he'll let you have your job after that?

I don't see it as "sissification" at all. Being a man means being in control of oneself. Muttering a curse word in front of a judge shows the kid has a lack of respect and self-control. I think it was a good lesson-learned.

In "the old days" a kid wouldn't even try something like this, as children/young adults had respect for their elders and authority.
