What's the best course of action when you purchased a fish from an online vendor here and received one with a gill curl? But you didn't buy it directly from the vendor instead you bought it in a group buy with other buyers. What would you do about it, or nothing you can do?

1st just pm or email the vendor, most times if u explain whats up they will work something out with you.

tha sucks id say call them or email if theyre good theyll help you out

As the others have said, I would contact the Vendor and see if something can be worked out. If not, then you should post something on their Marketplace Feedback.

The unfortunate answer is that replacement is likely cost prohibitive. Shipping costs are never on the vendor, and that leaves you as the one who has to eat it. Since you split the shipping cost on a group buy already, chances are you are in it for a lot less than you could be. There is a bitter pill to swallow when you realize you have to pay a 3rd party a wad of money just to deliver an item that should have been right in the first place.

As far as the vendor goes, it's hard to say. What they *should* do is refund a portion of the money, but what they will likely do is provide some sort of credit. I think history has shown that gill curl is an affect of poor water quality over time (at least with arowanas). I guess you can assume that is due to the collection facility, but at this point I'm only speculating.

On the other hand, it is repairable. I've seen pics of hardened gill covers trimmed down, and they grow back after a while. So it's not like a dead fish was shipped to you. There is some value to the fish, but unfortunately, it's likely always going to be something that you're less than happy about.

Clay is right I don't think it will turn out to your liking.

Even then, a fish with gill curl should have NEVER been shipped to a paying customer. That's downright negligence on the seller's part.

I paid the group buy person cash. So essentially I bought it from the group buy person instead of the vendor.

I have a funny feeling i know who you are talking about.

If this vendor is doing this to many people we should expose him.

I did cut the gill when I first got the fish. I thought that might have fixed the problem but now the gill plate is growing outwardly like it's curling again.

The vendor actually had the gill curled fish in his ad. I emailed him asking if the fish has a curl he said no, that the fish is just flaring from eating food. Either he is playing dumb or being naive or just a straight out liar, because he updated the ad with a different fish after I received the one with the curl.

is the picture the vendor posted still up? lets see it. I agree with J that fish should not have been shipped without u knowing it condition before hand.
