sad news to report, the oscar that i rescued that had suffered from HITH was killed by my barred midas this afternoon. that is the only thing that was with it that was large enough to batter and kill it. After a few days with absolutely no aggression i believed that the midas was behaving itself in its new home and now this. im going to have to completely revamp where i have all my fish. its such a shame that fish had such a likeable personallity. and it had endured a tough life and pulled through only to be killed in a fit of rage.
I am very sorry to hear about this!!! RIP Oscar my feeling are with you!!!!!!!

Hello all, great looking O's. Quick question to everyone. I bought my O "Ebony and Ivory" about 1 1/2 year ago as babes, my oldest fish. and they had a massive growth spurt, hit 8 inches in less than 7 months. So I bought them a 120 gal to upgrade from 40 gal and they have barely grown an inch since then. Do they go through growths periodically or has something stunted their growth? Here's pics for anyone who missed it earlier.

That's normal. Oscars grown like crazy to the 8"-10" mark and then sloooow way down. They actually grow their entire lives (like a lot of fish do) but once they hit that slow-down point they seem to put on more bulk than anything else. You did great by putting them in a 120 gal. They're big fish and they need that much room to stretch and coast, there wouldn't have been much chance of 2 Oscars thriving in a 40 gal tank.

hey perfect i shoulda told u but there was a retarded huge oscar at a lfs here in cedar rapids he was like 16" id say atleast..... friggin ridicullously huge he looked as if he could eat a golf ball with his huge mouth. oh and at the same lfs they have some what they call wild or normal oscar babies im talkin .5" ones for like 3 bux a pop they so cute
also once i get some pics of my lil guy ill join :P hes bout 3.5" he was labeled a normal oscar. still has his white stripe but doesnt show his colors unless he gets into a fight with his tankmates or its feeding time. he is currently housed with 2 smaller jags

I notice last night my tiger has a prefect black tail eye spot. It's hard to get ao good pic of it. There really isn't any black on him except in the spot. It might be normal but it just jumped out at me last night. Even when his colors get dull the black in the spot stays vibrate.
