Once mine got bigger than 6 inches, they stopped. They just eat waaaay more!!

My O is over 8" now, and he wakes me up at night. he jumps up and knocks the lid of the tank. the spoiled bastard thinks he'll get food. funny fish, but you gotta have a lid.

two things.

1 are you overfeeding?

Don't believe so not giving them much at all.

2 do you have smaller fish and/or bottom feeders to eat up the crumbs the Oscar drops? convicts, firemouths, and/or plecos are necessary tankmates for oscars. I don't even specifically feed my convicts (I have 7 of them) anything. I just feed my O large Cichlid Gold pellets, and the cons get the scraps. my O gets convict babies sometimes, also.

Oh heck yeah, check my tank setup I have a lot of scavenger/smaller fish that will eat everything the O's spit out.

and nightcrawlers. my O loves night crawlers. they make almost no mess, and he digests all of it (none spit out, or falling out of gills). great growth food.

Yeah, I have done nightcrawlers they do love them plus the LMB will eat the crap out of em also. and every 5 days I add 48 feeders.

If I use particulate clear the tank will clear after 4-5 days then stay that way for a couple of week then back to cloudy. I am thinkin of adding a canister filter that might get a stronger current to mix it up. I am currently running 2xEmperor 400s

Feeder fish aren't good nutrition and bring in disease, darknurd. 48 of them? That's a LOT of anything to add at one time. It may be bacterial bloom due to increase in ammonia production, whatever you want to call it. I'd stop with the feeder fish, those are bad news.

for sure thats way too many feeders, if you want to give them feeders get a 10 gal containment tank and buy 50 or so to put in there, then over time feed them a few at a time. you should never add more than 3 fish at a time. rosy reds or other feeders you can get away with more but not 48. that is more than likely your prob. prob like TwistedPenguin said and a bacterial bloom. feeding them raw shrimp or silversides instead, plus its alot easier on the wallet than feeders, less chance for disease, just plain healthier, and could possibly stop the bacterial bloom. if they dont eat it the first day dont get discouraged, just net it back out and throw it away. then try again the next day. they will eat it before they starve to death. just make sure you take the shell off the shrimp. this is turning into a book so ill stop now.

Yeah I started with 12, but they would be gone in less than 30 min and the fish were looking for more. Just a reminder 2 10" O's, 8" Jag, 8" Red Devil, 7" Pim Cat, 7" Large Mouth Bass, 5" Green Terror. 48 feeders do not last 2 days. I do very much agree with the feeder disease, but I get them from a very selective store that does more water changes in their feeder tank than any other. I would be interested in finding something better just not sure what with so many large fish. maybe need ot cut down on tank mates.

I hopefully will post some more pics of my o's. Got a new o a couple weeks ago. Also about the feeding o's feeders I only do it once a month.
