ooo My New Fishie!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Actually that guy will get more like 10 inches, the only thing that compressicep has in common with the other ones is the flat/long face look other wise that guy shouldnt even be called a compressicep.... But one the bright side they are cool fish especially the males!!! They can me some mean s.o.b's

I thought that looked odd for one. Thanks for the clarification :grinyes:

Very cool fish Ash, One of my favorites!!!! It'll get pushing 10 inches and in rare cases up to almost 1 foot. If it's a male, it'll turn metallic blue with orange in its anal fin. Don't feed it a meaty food or dry pellets, smaller ones often get bloat and die in that kind of diet. If your going to use pellets, soak them in aquarium water first so they are saturated before it eats them.

You had mentioned the calvus, it is closley related to and very similar in appearence to the Lamprologus Compressicepps but not the Dim. Compressiceps, Just some african trivia for you.....

Congrats on you new cool fish...

Good catch. Had one just like this a couple weeks ago. I had to get rid of him because he was killing all the other fish in the tank. Very very mean fish, but so good looking. Mine was approx. 6".

Gotta keep an eye on this guy when he grows up...notorious for picking at larger fish's eyes.

Still a nice fish :)

I had a big male of those awhile back, probably like 8 incher till he got boiled.
Dimidiochromis compressiceps comes from Lake Malawi, while Lamprologus compressiceps com from Tanganyika. I also had a WC yellow lamp compressiceps about 6 inches. One of my all time fav fish. I feel like i've been drinking again when i look at the pics though! JK!

Thanks for all the info, this guy is new to me so I am looking forward to learning about him. I saw pics of him when he gets older very nice looking, he will soon have a buddy as my other lfs accidently got one in on the mix african shipment.. what luck. Would there be any problems keeping them with calvus as that is the tank they will most likely end up in soon (all about the same size)??? feeding starts tomorrow I have nls pellets and spirulina(sp)flake foods which should I feed it(as I see no meaty pellet foods and stuff)? Go with the flakes? I dont have anyother food on hand untill I get payed. Yah they told me 5 inches havent had time to look it up, but thanks for the clarification I think these guys will be getting a seprate tank as they grow, do they grow fast or slow?
