Because they are ugly...boring and raise nitrates. I'll eventually get a royal pleco.
But all the cichla I just bought kinda depleted my fish moolah for now.
I had a marble sailfin that turned psycho and decided it wanted meat and would attack my cichlids......ever since then I stay away from them.
Lol well every fish causes nitrates that's what water changes are for.
I only see one real down side to these common plecos and its how much the poop

I started them in too big of a tank IMO....
I didnt notice how warm it was getting or how much food they werent eating.
The filter sucked up more bw than I thought. I pulled a super rookie mistake and....
lost 3 kels. Ya I know I suck at keeping fish. This really gave me a wake up call. In an expensive way

Sorry to hear that G but don't get to bummed I lost a sao fran, and a ra kel....you know better than anyone that this is the hardest size to grow cichla from.
