you can just rest the legs directly on the glass tops.

Unfortunately with the coralife adjustable mounting brackets you can't use glass tops. They're brackets that sit inside/outside of the rim of the tank on each side.

normally cichlids are good about not jumping. but when they do jump, they jump high.

also, the smallest things startle cichlids so when they get scared they jump.

I had a few tank that didn't have lids on them for a while. I always had trouble with heating the tanks. I think I had one jumper in about six months, and that tank was extremely overstocked. The tank looks good without and as long as you don't mind a loss here and there, you should be fine. Myself, I like lids.

So far no jumping probs to report. But like you mentioned Pharaoh, my heater seems to not be able to keep up with the heat loss. I normally keep it at around 75-77 & have never had a prob. I've noticed that with the open tops it struggles to stay around 72-73 on the same setting. It's a 200w Jager heater. I've since added another 200w Visitherm Stealth to see if it can help.

Would a 72-73 temp be bad for Mbuna, mostly overnight when the light is off?

Beautiful tank Joe!

I agree with most I think you should leave the top on!
