Open Wound on my fish's Face

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well secondary infections are either caused by poor tank maintinence(so do a monster water change) or some other disease or parasite. If it wasn't a northern I'd say raist the temp. you could put freshwater salt in there to help. There is really a dozen thing you could do here.

Fish has an open wound on his face (this is how I got him) He won't eat, I think its because of the damage to his jaw, it could be very possible that he has a hard time making his mouth open.

Or its in the first post!

You don't think the reason he won't eat could have something to do with you just caught him from the wild, transported him in some sort of tiny container that was exposed to all sorts of unnatural noises and plopped him in to a fish tank where nothing is familiar and some huge monster (you) keeps sticking its face in his?

This fish has never had so much light around it, never had the view of a person in its face, never had the view of a HOME, has never heard a radio/TV until now. He ate live bugs and fish in his old home, and you are trying to feed it what? He has always had the ability to swim a long ways from anything that was threatening or scary before, but now that doesn't work.

It came from water temp and pH of X and you have put it in a tank with a water temp and pH of Y.

Ohh and it also has an infection from the injuries it received as it was violently yanked from the water by its lips.

Yeah I would wonder why its not eating too. :screwy:
Eh? Wild caught snakehead.......in tonga?????

Doing a WC as we speak. I 100% did not catch this fish, however, I took it in, so I feel its my responsibility to what I can to make its quality of life better than it is now. Don't assume that I'm the one that damaged this fish like this. At this point whats done is done, lets fix it.

The best medicine for an injury is super clean water. Lots of water changes.

Is the fish wild caught? (Just not by you?)

Honestly I don't know if it was W/C, it had a gaping wound on its face and was living in a cooler, with a sun fish. Not making assumptions here but you probably can piece it together. So I'm buying melefix and primafix today. Starting a daily W/C 40% w/ salt, I have never had a fish with a giant open wound let alone, fungal infection (didn't even know what one looked like until now. Whats this about swabbing his wound?

Update** Hes eating!, added the usual salt, and treated with melafix and prima, I might go beat the crap out of his previous owner. He's eating fatheads right now, which im glad to see, I'm going to keep up the Wc and lets see what happens. Can I get a Little direction on swabbing the wound directly?
