Man, those Filstar are priced nice, and the priming isn't as bad as I thought (just lil harder for more being in tight spot) I guess I'm considering three now, the 2028, c-530, or Xp3. I've had good luck with Marinland and Eheim in past, but never tried Rena before.

I'm sure any of the 3 would work well. The only big difference between them seems to be flow, the c-530 rated the highest.
I've got two XP3's on my 55 and then I've got a 2217 that I'm going to put on it later. I love the XP3's (They're my first canisters). They were easy to set up, and definitely worth getting. You can get them for $109 at Drs. Foster and Smith.

If you're worried about priming them, they come with a little funnel that you use and that makes it really easy.

I've owned an eheim 2213, 2262, and magnum 350
I'm trying to sell my magnum 350 and just bought a 2217

- 2217 is rated for 264 gph gets 202,
- magnum 350 rated for 350gph gets 180 with open tube not even spray bar. Spray bar would knock off another 25gph

- 2217 20 watts, 350 35 watts.

- 2217 can biofilter the hell out of giant tanks, 350 can't biofilter to save its life

- Taking apart the 350 to is an absolute pain and must be done far more often. The fittings to the doubletaps are cheap and come off really easily spilling water everywhere, and every time you open the doubletaps you think you're going to snap them.

- 350 is WAY WAAY louder than the 2217

- Micron cartridges on 350 are a complete pain to change out, not even worth using. I bought an extra so i could have it running full time but its such a pain to change them I never use either and just put substratpro in the media basket. Fine white pad on eheim canisters is IMO much better than the micron cartridges all things considered, unless you want to spend 25 minutes every 2 days on your filter.

- the piping that goes in the aquarium for 350 is big and clunky and conspicuous, 2217 is more hidden and not as obvious

- 2217 is $30-$40 more but is WELL worth it in my opinion. You'd save $20/yr in electricity running 2217 over 350. Or put differently, you could run two 2217's for almost the same price as one magnum 350 in electricity. I'd take the 2213 over the magnum 350.
-the 2262 is just a powerhouse nuclear reactor...costs a lot tho.

Eheim's are my #1 choice of filter over any other style, or branding for a large tank. No other canister holds up to an eheim IME.

Well six 2217 Eheims running for 20 plus years with never a replacement part needed and still run whisper quiet and huge MEDIA space for whatever one needs or wants says it is the Best filter for the money, longevity and peace of mind one can buy in the aquarium hobby so the Classics are that for a REASON.

That pretty much sums all of what should be of a quality canister.

I, have yet to own a Eheim classic, but plan to.
