your plants will be eaten so you dont want to waste your 7 bucks. get some plastic plants they will be much better for the long run. dont care wat people say those fish will be fine in that tank for the rest of their lives. get more fish. and sand is a whole new ball game. its cloudy, messy, sticky, pain in the ass to clean, and it rots very fast. if this is your first tank just get gravel. trust me i blew 60 bucks then gave it away. sand is meant to put in natural effect, so obviously its pointless with two plants and a volcano. :) position the volcano in the back right corner and add accents so it doesnt look so cheesy. add a lightly colored backround to the glass. with some blue light it will look a lot better.

If you're looking for a plant your fish will leave alone, try anubias or java fern. It's tough and bitter tasting to fish.
How do you figure a BGK that gets 16" can fit in that tank for life? That's insane. They need plenty of space and places to hide.
Again, sand doesn't do this. It sounds like you used some bad sand and weren't cleaning it correctly. How is sand sticky? How can it "rot"? All te sand in my tanks is super easy to clean, isnt sticky at all, and doesn't rot.

If sand is so bad, why do 99% of saltwater guys use it? This is crazy talk from inexperienced hobbyists. Please do some more research and have more experience before dishing out advice.

:iagree:

and how does sand even rot?

Yeah, I chose to ignore the "sand rot". I love how I have mine set up. My ten gallon has had sand and them some gravel on top for a few months and I absolutely love cleaning it. Plus I know that the fish prefer the areas that I left without rock. That's why I chose to do it this was for this tank.

Here's an updated pic, My crab escaped ( I need to figure out how to escape proof the tank, I thought I had done that, I guess not.) So atm there's a pleco, The Blue Gold JD, and the dalmatian Molly. The pleco comes out a lot more, I think its because he's camouflaged in the rock, or it could be that he just go used to the tank, it's only been setup for two weeks now.

She has one and its blue.

Yeah, it's painted blue or something, the tank was used, but I actually think the company that manufactured it did it. TRUVU, it does not look like someone just painted it. Point is I can not get it off, it's blue, end of story :(

Your pleco will most likely need a larger tank before October... it should be around 14-15" by then (I'm assuming it's about 1-2" now).

I am not sure about his growth rate... the pleco I mean, I have had people tell me different things, My mom had a common pleco in a 30 gal for years and he didn't get more than like 4 inches, I'm going to have to just keep an eye on him and see how fast he grows, I have had him for a few months and just this last week I noticed that he has thickened out and grown just a little bit bigger. Does any one know from experience how fast a common pleco will grow?

He is a new hybrid or line-bred( I do not know the difference) He is the spawn of two EBJD and Gold JD crosses (they have to be unrelated) He was $20, I bought him from a breeder who is no longer breeding Jacks anymore, he kind of created this variant, I may be breeding them and I think there is someone else who is as well, I think if you look in my Sex my blue old JD thread someone said they were gonna breed them too.

If you wanted a different background (other than that blue, if you can't get it off), a lot of aquarium stores now have 3D backgrounds that attach to the back of the tank from the inside. It's really beautiful. They had a fairly large sized tank set up in the store with the 3D background and it looked like an ancient stone wall. Couldn't hurt to check it out.
