Anyone have any pics of their 2078 up and running? Do you like the wave maker function that is has? Thinking of getting one and selling my Fluval FX5. I know the 2078 is rated at 490 GPH per Drs foster and smith and my fluval is 600 w/ media according to the manual. I'm looking for mainly mechanical as I have the Ehiem 2229 Wet/ Dry and am extremely happy with that. Let me know what you all think and how you filled it. If I decide to order one I want to do it this week to get it up and running this week as I have oral surgery and will be off from Wednesday to sunday.

I really like this filter. I don't use the wave make feature, but rather the 12 hour cycle of bio/mech. If you want a mech filter, personally I would say either a sponge filter, or a HOB. Canisters are only good as mech filters when they are full of mech filtration and not bio. I have mine filled with 2 L ehfimech, and 6L ehfisubstrat pro.

My FX5 is full of EhfiMech stuff for filtration and would probably do the same if I switch to the 2078.

Just looking for something with maybe a bit less flow.

Mech filtration is most effective at higher flow rates, and with actual mech filtration media. Ehfi mech is not a very good mech filtration, sponges are. This is why the FX5 is a good choice for mech filtration.

Guess I should just keep my FX5 then and save my cash. I use the FX5 Blue pads in it and it seems to clean fantastic

One more question. Does the FX5 get alot of bypass. On my Eheim 2229 Water doesn't really have any room for bypass but what about the FX5? Still pondering the 2078 or possibly the 2080.

Craig

I don't like the design of the fx5, and as such don't want to waste the money. Both the 2080 and 2078 have a tight seal, and there is next to no chance of bypass. The 2080 is a huge monster, and the 2078 is very tall. If you want mech, the 2078 is better than the 2080 for mech.

Thanks, I just ordered the 2078 and some more EhfiMech, EhfiSynth, EhfiFix to fill it with. The Fluval has been great but it adds alot of current in my 75 and also does a wonderful job at filtering but I think my tankmates will be happier with less flow.

Craig.

You definitely should run this one 12 hour bio/12 hour mech, this way the fish are happier, and you get both high flow and low flow rates.

the makes no sense to me

the 1st pro3 2080 with twin inputs was good for a tank upto 1000L and had a flow rate of 1700lph

this new pro3e 2078 holds more media has a more powerful pump at 1850lph yet ehiem say its only good for a tank of 700L

dont make sense to me
