Opinions On The Show "Tanked"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I imagine there is a lot more that goes on behind the scenes regarding acclimation and tank cycling (mob tank being the exception), but even so, it doesnt help the stigma that follows this hobby. I refuse to watch it. While I understand that they have to keep the show interesting to the general population, but a quick quip about proper acclimation techiniques and cycling methods would help an un-informed person keep from making the mistake of throwing fish in willy nilly into an uncycled tank.

I just watched episode 5 and they finally did a live reef tank. They did a good job and used a refugium and explained what it did. Finally a legit sw setup

Like what zoodiver said in another post, thier is a lot of behind the scene events. The time to build tanks and certain structures are said in the shows to be made in a week or a few days....thier is lots of time between construction of the tank, construction of the inserts, filter and the addition of the fish. It's edited very very heavily.

I can't wait till next week showing

Tanked isn't for us as fish people, it's for reality show fans. Fish just happens to be the topic. It's not a tech show at all, and they script the whole thing (including the drama). Take it as face value, and it's a fun show to watch.

Also, don't take the show to be what those guys do in real life. They are one of the best companies out there. Check out their website for zoos/aquariums/private tanks they've done. It's no little thing.

Lol, I follow up on saltwatertvguy on youtube, once he came out with that I was like "Gotta Post It"

...One day I would like to do business with them....one day in like 15 years...when Im 30 lol

I emailed them about a tank about a week ago. Looking for a tank like the round stingray tank they set up.
I also complamented them on the show. And in closing of my email, I asked them how they set up tanks so fast. By adding in the water, then the fish rt after. Asked if it was just a TV things and they didnt show the cycling time, or if they had a special way of doing it.

So got a reply to my email. They gave me a price on the tank I asked about.. :-o

But did not get an answer about how they set up a tank so fast...

Still like the show. Love looking at the fish and different tanks they set up.

Also mention in the vid posted, apparently thier not allowed to communicate with viewers.... guessing it's a tv thing that has lots of biased opinions

But i did watch the interview with Mr. Saltwater guy and he has a point. We dont see behind the scenes and how they do things. Saying they have seeded bio-balls, etc and stuff tell me this is also true.. So we will see what next years shows. I still like the show and will watch it, even if its jsut for the cool tanks and the fish..

But still hope they start showing people who want to get into the hobby, there are steps to setting up tanks. Not just adding water and fish.. esp saltwater..
