After some time, losing the large piece of driftwood would be a must to give more swimming space.
I dunno. I'm pretty attached to that piece. Took a couple of years to have the Java fern cover it :D

the elong is one of the most active ps. [...], this lil mofo is not afraid of anything and very territorial.[...] one advice, i'd be you, i'd add a powerhead in your thank. elong are very active fish that could fit tight in a 75 gal, but will do well as long as he has to keep on swimming all the time.

territorial as in "single specimen", or territorial as in "only a few and nothing else"?
Also, my filtration runs 450 gal/h w/ spray bar. I'd still need a powerhead?

i don't know man. If I had a spare 75 laying around I'd put a jaguar cichlid in it. I know that's completely off topic, but there you go...
I'm just not a cichlid kinda guy :grinno:

Almost all Serra's are single specimen fish. Some people with large rhombeus's have successfully kept some smaller fish (neons). The theory is that the 1" fish are just too small for a big rhombeus to put effort into catching and eating.
There have been a few keepers that have had success in keeping serras, which are highly recommended as keeping solitary, in pairs or even more. Not my thing....you're always dealing with fin nips and sometimes much more. It would be rewarding, however the price tag on this fish is too high to gamble IMO.

I run a Ehiem 2217 on my Rhoms 75 gallon tank along with a Hydor 4 powerhead. The power head is rated for 1200 GPH and he loves it. I'd highly recomend one if you go the Serrasalmus route.

tango knows what he's talking about, I'd listen to him.

if your patient wait till summer and get yourself some baby caribes. id get 4 maybe five because there may be cannabilism. if you add some silver dollars or something silver you will have less casualties. i have 2 that i got in august. i started with 5 and kept them well fed but still lost 3. so my best advice if you do go with caribe is to add like 4 silver dollars as dithers. good luck

yeah caribe's are really cool and would be cool in a shoal of 4. There's a member on here that had a similar setup if you want to get an idea of what it would look like. Caribe are really aggressive too...

I take it back. Four caribe would be much cooler than a jag.

If your tank was a tad bigger I'd throw the idea of multiple S. Geryi out there..:D
