Does anyone know when these fish start breeding. im 99% sure i have two females and two males so im geussing a pair will form.
I bought a group of 10 1.5" orange heads in October 2011. Two (of the five I ended up keeping) paired off and laid eggs in November 2012 at about 3.5" in length. They ate the eggs within hours. Since that time they've probably spawned again (I've seen their tubes down), but the eggs have not lasted. I hear that is pretty normal for orange heads the first few times they breed. Hopefully they'll figure it out, but then again, they're in a community SA tank that is not really set up for a pair of breeders.
Here are some pics. The first shows the male. In the second one you can see the female with a small clutch of yellowish eggs just to the left of the darker rock. Good luck!

I got a group from Rapps around christmas 2011, and had a first spawn only 3 months later. I was shocked, they were so young. but was told that his line of F1's are early spawners.Does anyone know when these fish start breeding. im 99% sure i have two females and two males so im geussing a pair will form.
yea i got my F1s from rapps aswell. i feel like the females are still a little small but i think it wont be too long till they start breeding
they love big water changes & it triggers spawning.yea i got my F1s from rapps aswell. i feel like the females are still a little small but i think it wont be too long till they start breeding
thanks, i will try that.Try a water change and bumping the temperature up a few degrees. Sometimes that stimulates breeding.
