Orbignyi rays looking pale

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
worms, krills and shrimp are your best bet right now..

I would stay away from small foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms as they are nutritionally worthless and just cause water quality problems when they blow all over the tank..

Right guys, thanks for the help, as always, id be lost without you. Ill take your advice and overdose them on night crawlers. Hopefully ill be posting some more pics over the next few weeks when they put on some weight. Cheers guys

Good luck hope everything turns around. I feed my rays 3 times a day. If your rays aren't eating that much try feeding them once just after you turn out the lights. If your feeding nightcrawlers put as much in as they will eat in an hour for now until they put on wieght

i have the same prob like you fizz last month....but my rays not able to survive from this....so, i wish you best of luck!!! i dont wish to see you saying any bad news of your rays......

Thnx for the replies guys, at the moment they eat but take their time so will leave food in for an hour and keep watching them.

Just a couple more questions, shall I leave temp at 27 or pump it up to 30? Also im currently chopping the worms in half before feeding, shall I stick to this or chuck them in straight? Cheers

I keep my rays at 27 except for my tigers and have no feeding issues. Most people here keep there rays at a higher temp. I've found no benefit when I raise my temp. How big are your rays and how big is your tank? I wouldn't cut them in half unless your rays are quite small. A 6" ray should have no problems with a full nightcrawler and the worms seem to last longer in the tank when there not cut.

as miles said feed them as much as they can eat.... i would also try to add pellets to there diet as well.... some serious power feedings and they should be good.... after you up the temp a lil salt in the water would not hurt...

Some good advice has been given here. One other thing that should be mentioned, you will need to increase your water change schedule with the feedings. More feeding means more bio-load, consequently, more water changes. You could do 50% two to three times weekly, depending on total water volume of your tank, or you could stick with smaller daily water changes, whichever your schedule allows. Best of luck.
