Orca seriously injured at seaworld

That is your opinion. Every animal has intraspecies conflicts, you can't expect them to get along 24/7.

That's not the only reason why. Cetaceans are oceanic roamers, unlike some fish and Sharks who may frequent the same territory for years. It's impossible to imitate the open ocean in captivity.

Not all cetaceans are oceanic roamers. Orcas, dolphins and older sperm whale males often become residents of the area so they never left the area at all.

You are right it is impossible to imitate the natural setting in the captivity for ALL animals, not just cetaceans. You need come up with better arguements and don't be hypocrite.

Housing animals of that size and intelligence has to be a daily struggle. I could see if it was two orcas that had fought in the past and they still had them together but if it was the first incident and they separated them after then they did what they could. You could argue that orcas shouldn't be kept in captivity for our amusement but then what are we all doing as fish keepers.

my fish is no where near a orca...

saying all that I'd rather see them at sea world then in the wild why? because people hunt things they shouldn't. plus sea world gives lots of jobs to people.

You need to not be so confrontational with your arguments, maybe if you look at that, you'll see why you have the reputation for doing so.
I didnt know that some Cetaceans have limited territories. But given their size and mobility, their territories are much larger and much more ever-changing than can be imitated in captivity.

So what's difference between cetaceans and other animals that we kept in the captivity? Plenty of animals that hold huge territories
such as big cats, birds, apes and even fish etc. Honestly I think everyone got a little carried away because a whale got bitten by other whale. Lion bites lion, piranha bite piranha and horse bites horse.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

And here we go again with the comparison of an orca in captivity to a cichlid. Didn't we go through this just a few months ago? :duh:

Big cats and Apes have specific territories, and can be enriched much more easily with intricate enclosures and climbing space than an aquatic Cetacean can. And no, no one is getting carried away because the Whale got bitten, that happens in the wild too.

So YOU thinks the physical activities (which is enrichment for the cetaceans) with the trainers ain't enough for the cetaceans? At last the cetaceans are thriving in the capitivity and breeding too.

Active enrichment from trainers only goes as far as when the trainers are actually doing it, but in the case of big cats and apes with big enclosures, the landscaping allows for far more stimulation than throwing a ball into an undersized bare water tank.

And like Jcardona said, just because you can, doesnt mean it should be done. Obviously my opinions arent absolute truths, because they are just that - opinions - but that's my reasoning, and in my mind, it's sound. You obviously cant recreate the wild in captivity, but with animals like apes and big cats, you can come a hell of a lot closer than you can with Cetaceans.

I've said it before and again... no one should keep Cetaceans in captivity.

i agree ...sometimes captivity is cruel.. no matter how we intervene to make it adaptable.
