ordering 180G filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What is easy to me may not be to you so I would look at reviews online and make a choice.I would run a 2262 but the price is high thats why I run 2 FX5s.

Go with sump lol...I don't know I find that sumps are way easier to maintain and easy to clean the mechanical media...filter sock.

Pretty easy all you need is a tank put some glass in it and a pump. Way easier then it looks lol, also since its reef ready might as well use that feature for a sump

no my tank is not reef ready. read my explanation again, I meant when buying sumps, they are designed with the PRESUMPTION that ppl have reef ready tanks, & know how to plumb things too.
I can't just drive down to an aquarium store and pick up odds & ends. have to order online.

are you saying that one 2262 equals the job of two fx5's?
I thought fx5's do more GPH (but 2262's have more bio, as opposed to the mechanical of fx5)?

the online reviews really don't have the 2 models' "ease of setup & maintenance, compared to each other".

I run a 2260 and 2262 both are way better in terms of function and quality when compared to the FX5.
I replaced my fx5 with the 2260.
My tank is way cleaner and the proof is when I remove the floss it's full of saw dust and so is the canister it's self.
The fx5 just pushed water through and hardly did much when it came to removing any waste.
I had 6 liters of bio rings in the fx5 I fit 17 liters of bio media and some big chunks of lava rock in the 2260.
I also have a few layers of floss in it.

I hate the lid fasteners on the fx5 they are poorly made and Hagen/fluval know this but won't change it. It's most likely because they like having people pay $10 each to replace them and they just break all over again. It's genius in a way.
I had a very long talk with their head office here.
Let's just say my experience with their customer service has was as useful as sticking a fork in a socket.
I would never use the fx5 ever again or recommend it.

But to each their own this is just my opinion.

Here's a good review comparing the fx5 and 2080 pro 3. Pro 3's aren't bad but they are not as good as the big classics

Lol sorry about that, however I run with an overflow box (I dont have a reef ready set)

Well its pretty easy once you get the over flow box (cost depends on gph) and then all you need is a pump on the other side.

I don't know the cost of a pump, overflow box, tank (for sump), glass sheets (for baffles) cost you compared to the fx5s...but It will defintly hold more media in a sump (of coarse depending on size)

Good luck, keep us updated when fully stock and such cant wait to see!

Also if interested try this:

If you do this you will defintly save lots of $$$$, and possibly depending on size put just as much or more media in this set up

Fx5 best bang for your buck.
And instead of getting 2 and killing your wallet, why not just add 2x AC110s to the fx5 ;)
I've never AC110s , but they go behind tank just like other HOBs. So how many inches clearance from the wall would that require? I looked for dimensions but can't find them. they hold alot of media so I doubt they're slim.
The tank would be more 'in the way' if it sticks out much more in this tight location. it's right beside the laundry room door. I moved the kitchen table, so now that's off center to the hanging overhead light. every inch will be more obvious.
Lol. nowhere else to put 6 ft tank for now.
:-/
the tank has two 10 3/4" X 1 1/2" openings at the back. is that what AC110's need?
I was thinking of cramming some pothos down inside those slots, to really block the openings + get benefits.

You'd need at least 7" of clearance to hang one AC 110 each filter is 13.5" in length

If you are putting the tank in a place that noise will be an issue don't bother with the AC110's over time they get really loud and need to be serviced for example replacing the shaft or impeller.

2262 is more efficient, prlly 10-15% better mech and bio filtration, its made in Germany, so your paying for the brand, 1 2262 and a good circulator will be enough, but 2 fx5 will be more efficient then 1 2262. Fx5 has a dvd to show you how to hook up, very easy plug and play, youll love it!
