i dun think its work that way, perhaps the yellowish one came from differentand speciall location, the environtment causing special genetic differences from other meruliodes

Agree the gene is the main criteria if the fish turn out yellow belly, then the water and enviroment is 2nd or 3rd. My knowledge is if you really want your bunga to turn out like wild ones you need wild caught bunga. But if you want to duplicate the water you need to maintain your PH to be at 5-6 and your TDS below 100PPM.

Before switching back to aro I was about to do the experiement, but now the plan is postpone to next year, I'll do a tight control of water and camouflage then post the result here.

...... and your TDS below 100PPM.

what's that...???

From my experience in fishing toman bunga, those caught in dam, ulu sungai the coloring isnt really good, those caught in peat swamp the color are intense. So the logic is to duplicate the peat water measuring PH5-6 and TDS = Total Disolve Solid to below 100PPM

pro... mine donno whether will turn to yellow....

hermandrum what skareb and na cheers said is logical. there's another method which you can try to further enhance your water quality and improve d colouring on your maruloides. Do u know that there's 1 type of dried leaves (palm size) where LFS usually sold them..to betta (fighting fish) keepers. u can use those leaves put inside your tank to enhance your water PH and improve the colouring on your fish. Those leaves were normally used for Giant red gourami (sabah red kalui) I couldnt recall what's d name of the leaf maybe na cheers might be able to shed some light on it

thats Ketapang leaves, personally I wont recomment that as it will make the water darker (black water) but I believe it wont have the element. I usually use Sera or QianHu peat granulate, cost you RM16 per 500g. These are granulate made from peat moss and you have all the element in it making it exactly like those found in peat swamp.

take pic, if you're seeing very fine holes this could be sensory, your fish is growing to be adult and form those sensory holes, very precise holes. If you are getting HITH Hole In The Head diseases, its more like you get white patches on the head.

There is no know cure for this except to change water regularly, Many ppl suspect Active carbon too long in the water causes it.

Some say too high NO3 - Nitrate is the cause.

FYI HITH very seldom causes your fish to die.
