I'd start with re-boiling the DW and checking pH... but I feel like it's unlikely that DW would cause a huge pH swing... but maybe since it's such a large piece?

Sorry may have missed it but how long did you jwd jwd treat the wood for?

When checking water parameters did you also check the PH? Usually not a big change unless you have a PH drop. The driftwood can effect that aspect of water quality. Some fish deal with the PH drop better than others.
I didn't. I will do that now.
you might try letting it soak in a trash can for a bit changing the water daily since its to big to boil

Good idea. I did let it soak in my bathtub but not for long enough.

IMO ,Would monitor and see if nipping continues or if wounds occur before I send a poly packing. It could have been a one time thing.Ultimately you are the judge though . :) . And I totally understand if it is your favorite poly. :p that means no games. Lol

They should be fine. That's the first sign of trouble since I've had them.

For big pieces of driftwood I use a cooler. They're perfect, you fill with boiling water and close the cooler and it will still be hot like 24 hours later.

Sorry for all your losses. I would do what thefredpit said. Remove the wood, do a large water change, maybe 2 days in a row.

Thanks, I'll try that as well.

sorry to hear about the losses. Pulling the driftwood might be a good idea for now. Or it could have been a bad batch of fish. Either way, it sucks.

What I've noticed over the past few months is that I need to quarentine everything. What some other people have told me was: "If it doesn't make it through quarentine, then it probably wasn't healthy to begin with."

What was the time line between healthy sen weeks ago, adding the drift wood, adding the new fish?

Yes, definitely will make sure they quarantine the fish before I buy them and then I will do so at the office.

Are you using a liquid test kit or test strips ? Could be like DMD said. The dw may be causing the ph to drop allot lower than what your tap is. How long after wc did this stuff start happening ? Test you tap ph then your tanks ph. Also don't test the tank water right after a wc wait a couple of days

I'm using the API master kit. 2 days I believe. The tank cycled so fast the feeder fish in my tank lived with no signs of distress. It cycled in less than a weeks time.

Maybe so. I'm about to test my pH.

I poured a lot of boiling water on it. I've been working on this piece for a while though. It's been to the car wash twice for a good power spray down. I've scrubbed it with a wire brush and after all of that I poured boiling water over it and let it soak in my bath tub over night.

Same as always. I have a stocking with crushed coral in every canister I own. I never can decide on the color on these pH tests. What do you think? I'm thinking 8.

I soak mine for a week atleast to get most of the tannins out.

I got a digital PH pen, so much easier

Well PH issue eliminated. In my area I already deal with softer water and then the large chunks of wood will cause PH drops. My fish will usually act kind of weird during this stage too. More of an issue when I come back from a long trip without the normal water change routine being done.

I really feel like if this was a poison issue from the wood that everything would have dropped like a leaf or is that the wrong way to think about it? They've been in there for about a week now and if the water was poisoned it would have killed them all. Especially the neons which I've found to be a little sensitive.

This is probably really important because it's unusual. I just did a huge water change and played around with the driftwood. I took the rocks out and the driftwood sinks on its own.

It's been in the tank 7 days.
