did you find it in a bog or on land?

Not sure what the qualifications for aquarium safe driftwood are. I know the type of wood makes a difference. But your friend should be able to help!

I have a river nearby that is just barely brackish. When the tide is out there are beaches you can walk on and find wood. I read something online that I'll stick to. Since it's best to use hardwoods what you do is stick your finger nail in it and if it doesn't sink in you should be okay.
Wow you found that !!

Very nice

Thanks! I've found another really good piece that I'm going to soak. This one isn't going to work because I think it's pine.

5000th like, enjoy ;)

Thanks!

sweet! thanks! Do you mind sharing the link? That's cool about being able to tell with pressing in your finger nail! Will use that method next time. What method are you going to use to soak/cure your wood? I've heard of soaking, bleaching, or boiling. Although, not sure how one would boil a large piece of driftwood.

I don't remember where I saw it but I'll try to find it. I e gone through so many websites researching. I think what I'll do is try using a crawfish boil pot. They're really large which might work. I would be too afraid to use bleach but I've seen people do it. I'll boil it and then soak it in decholorated water for a while. I plan to use a huge rubber maid container.

Hows the tank doing?

The new one is not doing well imo. I put plenty of media from the established canister into the new one and it's like it didn't help at all. I'm having high ammonia and no other levels.

My poly are doing awesome. I don't really see any noticeable growth out of my ornates but my dels are getting big fast. One in particular is a fatty!!

Bummer. Cycling a tank is just not fun. At all. I am going to recommend... drumroll... MORE PLANTS. :D

Would love to see some updated pics of your crew when you have a chance, including the cichlids!

I'll bring my camera up here one day this week when I have a chance so I can get updated photos. The cichlids are doing great. I can't wait for my chocolates to color up.

I'm going to buy a lot of plants for both tanks once I'm ready for fish in the 75g. I want to get it all at once because of shipping cost.
