I'm wondering if it will work. Kribs rarely exceed 4", same for Jewels but they sometimes get bigger. Kribs aren't known for crazy attitude

Has anyone ever successfully kept bichirs with smallish cichlids?
I have. The het was kept with lower jaws for a while though i wasnt comfy with it long term with some of them
I can only keep UJ right? LJ are generally monstrous in size eventually right?

What I have planned is an UJ anyway

Depends.on what uounconsider monsterous

Aren't most of them 18"+?

I have found another cool potential tankmate, the African hingemouth. It looks promising but there is very little info on it

By the time they reach thst size theres a good chance 1 or both of the cichlids wouls have pissed you off.

Been years since I've seen them available (years).

One sponser of a local forum had them in a few years ago. I'm waiting on a response

After my salvini I'm rather just gonna avoid cichlids.

It's gonna be my 70 for a good few years. I MAY be able to upgrade to a 6ft tank in 4-5 years since they are so cheap second hand. I'll dabble with the big ones once I'm settled in somewhere; )

magpie magpie I'm getting a light today. What light do you use to grow all of your awesome plants?

Also, I just fed the polys and omg.. the dels are like vacuum cleaners! They don't stop. They're going to turn out like that one picture around here of the really big fatty. Whose was that? I can't remember.

DMD123 DMD123 's fatty Teugalatti is the poly you're thinking of, I bet. :)

I used T5HO bulbs x2, different spectrums for years. Then I got tired of replacing the bulbs, one fluke one melted the plastic covering on the light and so I said eff it and switched to LED about 2 months ago maybe? Plants are doing well. I have a Finnex Planted Plus. It's adjustable and has this 24/7 mode where it goes from "sunrise" to mid-day, sunset, moonlight, etc. But I don't use that. You can alter the light, too - so if you like it a bit more white/blue or a bit more yellow you can do that. So far, so good.

I like being able to change the light. After a water change I might use a dimmer setting (after I rip out floating plants and it's a bit brighter in there). When I acclimated my new Polli I used the moonlight setting, so it was low but I could still see the fish.

Sadly I will always be remembered for jabba, lol
If a fish could talk this one is so miserable looking you can actually picture it saying 'kill me please'
