I just finished my DIY python. I made it using a 50 foot ordinary garden hose (new one). Is it safe for my fish, is there a possibility that the hose releases chemicals in my tanks ?

I bought a hose that's white with standard garden hose fittings that was labeled safe to use for potable water, just to be on the safe side. It wasn't any more expensive than a regular garden hose. A regular one probably won't hurt anything, though.

I've used a garden hose just fine for that~

Isn't that how most people fill their huge tanks to begin with? I can imagine carrying buckets back and forth to a 100-200+ gallon tank.

i use it all the time. although somebody here (Ash i think it was) had all her fish die from chemicals in the hose. apparently if you leave water sitting in the hose for extended periods of time it can leach chemicals into the water. dump that in your tank and you could have problems.

i always run the hose for a few seconds before putting it in the tank to flush any old water out, just to be safe.

I totally use a garden hose as a vacuum.

And here I am spending $$$ on a python when I have three garden hoses sitting around in the yard....doh!!!!
