Orino grow out thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
fx5

there's also 2 sponge filters in there which are constantly bubbling.

Ahhh fx5s drove me crazy when I ran them. They constantly started and stopped to purge air. Most likely nothing is wrong with the filter. Have you had the filter for a while?

yeah, they're supposed to do that. lol the fx6 do it every 12 hours instead of every 24 like the fx5 does. my problem is there's a constant gurggling like there's a hole in the intake hose somewhere. but a tiny pinhole sized one. so good luck to me finding it. :/

Maybe try replacing the tubing. I believe it's pretty inexpensive off of eBay. You could also use the clear tinted tubing so you can see what's going on in there.

Sorry for the lack of updates again. They just keep hiding. To the point I'm not sure they're eating anymore. They don't have sunken bellies and they're just as active as before, colors are normal when they don't see me, but then the second they see me, it's run and hide!

Can't decide if I should try dithers or removing everything from the tank and just leave it completely empty. Suggestions?

Had to get these shots from half way cross the room, so sorry for the quality.

Alright. I'm back. Life got crazy there for a second. Quit my job, started a new one, RTC got sick, cichla went on a hunger strike, plus the holidays and more. **** crazy yo. But finally life is calming down again and I'm able to make some updates.

So behold, my update. They're still hiding a bit more than I like and still pretty skittish when I walk by, but at least they're eating with me in the room again. The rescape and removal of a lot of the decorations definitely helped. I think they just felt too safe in the corners and didn't feel safe in the tank itself.

Also, I dunno if it's me being impatient, or the fact orinos grow really slow, but these guys are growing REALLY slow. I'd day the biggest is maaaaybe 8". If that big. I mean they are taking their sweet ass time. But considering how they're turning out, I'll let them take as long as they want :D

Anyway, here's some pictures.

Glad they're eating again! Have you checked your water? Something might be wrong if they didn't eat for so long

You need more bass than 2....and a group of 4+ silver dollars will get them active.
I can almost gaurentee that.
And Orino's are slow growers. Just do lots of wc's and get em on massivore.

Water was and has always been perfect. They get 50% water changes twice a week.

There's 3 of them in there along with two 9" bichirs. Once they all hit 9" or so and they're regularly hitting pellets they'll be moved to the 125 to grow out with the kelberi, who's also decided to slow down its growth at ~10".

Maybe I'm just trying to compare them to the two hybrids who are ~17" and got there in as many months. But those are hybrids, they're gave that hybrid growth thing going on
