I have one of each or the same sp. that looks completely different ither way. When you find some you better jump all over it. I had to wait a full year before I got mine and I will never sell them ever! I searched high and low for them all but I got em'. (Sorry guy's I am not posting any pic's for a while) besides you guy's have a good idea from the pics already posted the differences just sit a compare and I am sure you will all figure it out.

You know the difference and you won't tell us.....WOW

It's not that I know the difference. It's that I see the variation. ;) I had to to look and see for myself. You see the three blothces with circle's is one and the other is the thin lined blotches if that make's sense. I felt the same way you do when I was told this but no matter how much discription I give you have to see it to really understand it. Trust me my Orino came on the same day. Until recently they looked a like in many way's. It wasn't till about a month ago that I noticed the change's. My theroy is still weak so I am unable to explain it 100% with out a doubt. You got remember man I am still learning myself. :) But I can say that over time and as your stock increases and your experience advance's you will see the difference's as well. Sorry i couldn't be of more help. I was confused when it was put to me this way as well but over time I understood.

Nexxus I would think you would be in a better position to decifer the diffrences for us because you have raised and kept this sp. for a longer time then most of us. Am I correct?

Ok so if you look at jcardonas it looks like a ven and if you look at mine it has more of the colombian circle look? Is that what your talking about?

Yes but this is just my weak theroy! :(

Guys,
All orinos, regardless of where they were collected, are highly variable. I disagree that any one person can distinguish a Colombian orino from a Venezuelan orino simply based on appearance. And don't forget that many of the orinos exported from Colombia were actually collected in VZ. That has been a widely known fact for many years. I am quite surprised that no one else has mentioned that (as far as I know).
Hope that helps calm they hysteria a little.

Well, yes and no. Listen to me carefully please:
Let's say you have a 200-gallon tank and you buy 6 orinos from Rapps and he says they are from the Rio Atabapo, Colombia. Then you buy 6 more from Rich at IF, and he says they are from the Rio Orinoco, VZ. You put the VZ ones in another 200-gallon tank. You grow both groups in their respective tanks up for one year.
At the end of the year....some from each tank will look like each other from a different tank. The more you have the more variation you get. Why do I know this? I did it :)

I would agree and the point I was making is that I see the differences in my OWN tanks no one else's period. I beleive that the batch of Orinos that we recieved were collected from more then one area and kept together before shipped out. So I possiably got two different sp because of the storage of many Orino's and then shipping them all under one banner. I don't even Id cichla anymore for anyone. I just make sure I got what I want so I can continue my OWN education. This is also why I buy my Cichla one at a time now just to see the variation's of the same sp. hopefully.
