Ich seems to be pretty prevalent in young cichla,in my case anyhow.Every baby bass that I've gotten had an attack at one point or another.
Yeah, especially when shipping them. They can be fine when the leave the vendor and develop the ich almost overnight. It's not that he shipped sick fish. It happened to me too when I bought my orinos from Rapps a few years ago. Just give them clean water, bump up the temp and add salt. They'll shake it off right away. Be VERY CAREFUL using ich medications on young cichla. You can kill them in no time with the wrong meds.

Well after learning that I checked him out on my lunch break. Appears to be doing fine still and I don't see any visible signs of ich, I have had him for about 4 days. I bumped the temp up and added some salt.

IMO, small cichla under 6" should be kept at no less than 87 to keep the ich away. Since Ive been doing that I havent had a problem. Hopefully it stays that way.

But as stated......87+ and lots of airation and salt w/ frequent wc's and the ich will dissapear in no time.

Mine kicked the bucket last night. Maybe for the best, the bottom of my 180 also cracked on the bottom bit the dust as well so that's one less fish I'm going to have to relocate.

Thats some bad luck there. This is making me nervous for the ones that I bought, hopefully they strengthen up a bit before I get them.

In-experienced fish keepers will have a hard time w/ tiny cichla.

That is why us cichla junkies are here. If you have questions just ask.....

CIchla under 7" should be kept in highly airated water that is well filtered and at 87-89 degrees. YOu do this and you shouldnt have a problem.

Got mine yesterday from John (x14), everyone made it through the night and eating a lot. How are yours doing jimmie?

This is the batch I got from John 2 weeks ago. The mono showed up with ick and only one of the orinos only ended up catching it. They're all spot free, eating like champs, and swimming all day. I have 3 more coming wednesday.
